PETROGRAD 1917 · RASKOL

How to play

Pick a leader on the front page to begin. The game starts in the simple mode; you can choose Civil, Medium, Hard or Realistic difficulty. Short scenarios cover a single period, while a full campaign runs twenty turns from March 1917 to June 1919. Some paths end earlier.

1. Read the event

Each card tells you who is involved and what is at stake. You can open the details before deciding. The same event can mean something different depending on which leader you play.

2. Make the decision

Choose one of the options under the event. You can accept, refuse or take a third way. Failure does not always mean you pressed the wrong button: relationships, preparation, earlier choices and plain luck all matter.

3. Watch the indicators

Support figures (workers, peasants, soldiers, party) depend on the character you play. They are shown on a 0–10 scale with at most one decimal. Your party fund is separate from the state treasury. A high support figure does not mean you command troops or govern a region.

4. Use the map

In the relevant periods the map shows the German front, the Ottoman advance in the Caucasus, and the areas where opposing civil-war forces meet. The occupied territory is hatched and the thick line is the de facto frontier; the thin dashed line is the 1914 border. In the simple mode the map is a display, not a management screen.

5. Read the monthly report

When the month's events are over, the report lists what changed. A promise you made earlier can come back later; a project may only finish several turns after you start it. Most decisions are not instant.

6. Keep your save

The game stores progress in your own browser. Clearing browser data, using private windows or switching devices can lose it. Use the export function if you need a backup. Save compatibility between beta versions is not guaranteed.
